LakewoodAlive volunteers we have accomplished so much this year. We hope you have experienced the impact that fellow residents and neighbors have made in the Lakewood community. Just head to Downtown Lakewood - you’ll see and feel the change! Our work included:
-
Leveraging our National Main Street™ status and resources for downtown Lakewood revitalization
-
Collaborating and partnering with the City of Lakewood and other Northeast Ohio communities, organizations and businesses to promote Downtown Lakewood and our quality of life.
-
Working with landlords and developers on security initiatives and to promote the downtown Lakewood district to new businesses.
-
Facilitating a new Downtown Lakewood merchant organization and assisting the merchants in their first promotional event, Lakewood Chocolate Walk.
-
Coordinating beautification efforts including flower displays and graffiti removal in the downtown district.
-
Improving and protecting our image by using grant funds to design a new downtown Lakewood signage and wayfinding system and submitting Design Principles to the Architectural Board of Review.
-
Marketing our downtown district and events via social media to attract visitors from outside Lakewood.
-
Hosting collaborative downtown Lakewood events and live entertainment such as STREETWALK, Downtown pARTy, Spooky Pooch Parade, Band2gether: One World Music Series and Light Up Lakewood.
- Presenting community engagement forums on economic development issues effecting Lakewood and Northeast Ohio, including the most recent forum on wind energy.
Updating information on our websites: downtownlakewood.org and lakewoodalive.com where details on all our activity can be found here in our 2009 Annual Report.
LakewoodAlive’s Housing Outreach program was also launched this year. Hilary Schickler was hired in July to oversee this program and she has already extended “exterior housing early intervention” outreach services to over 400 residents. A healthy housing stock remains a linchpin for economic development; our housing outreach work is important, challenging and unlimited in its potential.
Sustaining and expanding LakewoodAlive’s programming is limited only by our resources. Your tax-deductible donation, large or small, will help ensure that the great work of your neighbors and friends to secure and enhance Lakewood’s economic future will continue.
LakewoodAlive improves our community in so many ways: economic development, arts and culture, beautification and housing. Your gift will directly help protect our quality of life. Thank you for your generosity and for your love of Lakewood.
Sincerely,
Mikelann Rensel - President, Board of Trustees
Jenni Baker - Chair, Development Committee
Mary Anne Crampton - Executive Director
